Your Child’s Dental Checkups are a Form of Cavity Prevention

Posted .

Thousands of children miss several hours of school every year because they are suffering from cavities and need to receive dental treatment during school hours. Even today, dental cavities remain the most common disease affecting children, and not only do they cause discomfort, they can also impede your child’s ability to concentrate on school and homework. We encourage you to have your child visit the dentist regularly for dental checkups to prevent cavities from affecting their oral health.

Our team at Green Valley Kids recommends professional dental cleanings and exams every six months for children in order to remove plaque and tartar and reduce the risk of tooth decay. Following the cleaning, we polish the teeth so that they can look their best.

The next step is for our dentist to thoroughly examine the teeth in case there are signs of tooth decay or other dental conditions that need to be treated in their earliest stages in order to prevent severe tooth damage. We prefer to avoid the need for invasive treatment when possible. Our dentist may also recommend that your child receive dental sealants if the chewing surfaces of the back teeth are deeply textured. Dental sealants are thin barriers painted onto the teeth to prevent bacteria from causing cavities in the tooth enamel.

Your child could also receive fluoride supplements in the form of fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash to fortify the tooth enamel against decay in between dental visits.

You are welcome to contact Green Valley Kids at 303-371-4485 today if you need to schedule an appointment for your child with Dr. Chris Roberts to receive the benefits of regular dental checkups in Denver, Colorado.
